About Shelley

Shelley Argent OAM

Shelley is recognised as one of Australia’s most successful educators, advocates and lobbyists for the rights of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.

As Queensland president and National Spokesperson for Parents and Friends of Lesbian and Gays (PFLAG), her decades of tireless work helped ensure policy and law changes at state and federal level, culminating with marriage equality in 2017.

Shelley was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in the General Division (OAM) in the 2006 Australia Day Honours, and in 2011 was named Senior Queenslander of the Year.

Shelley and husband Don live in Brisbane, but love travelling the world, especially to visit sons James and Glenn.
